The opportunity - Te tūranga

We're looking for a talented Data Scientist to work within TVNZ's Data Research & Insights team. You'll help drive business decisions and activate analytics across all of TVNZ using the insight, data and research of all of TVNZ's properties.

Using data from our analytics tools and data lake, you'll work to understand our audience and business drivers, looking for opportunities to help support our teams to deliver growth across all of our assets and drive commercial growth.

You will be responsible to Develop data solutions that meet the requirements of TVNZ business units by

  • Lead, develop and support implementation of processes, tools, automation, and self-service options to increase the data analytics capability of TVNZ
  • Deliver business insight and understanding of audience behaviour and revenue drivers to support the development of content & marketing strategy and drive commercial value
  • Consider and recommend new ways of extracting value from our data, including how it can be enriched, how analytics can be activated across the business and where analytics can be used to further our strategic goals

This job needs someone who's passionate about solving problems, using information to create opportunities and solutions, and telling stories derived from various data sources. You'll be happy dancing between adhoc questions as well as working on larger innovation and automation projects.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for.

  • Solid year experience in a data analytics/scientist role
  • Experience using a database query language such as SQL
  • Statistical modelling and machine learning skills including logistic regression, decision trees, clustering, and Bayesian analysis
  • Experience with Azure Synapse & Databricks is preferred
  • Experience in visualisation tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Ability to provide the highest quality, accurate data analysis to meet the needs of stakeholders
  • Understand and clearly communicate the drivers of outcomes where necessary
  • Data modelling skills eg forecasting and segmenting audiences
  • Ability to visualise data in an easy-to-understand format and communicate to stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of data management services and data storage
  • Transfer knowledge and train colleagues and team members
  • Lead simultaneous projects both internally and externally to deliver analytics and
